The SPACEBEAM consortium is formed by two universities (SSSA , TYN), two small companies (LXI, AFW), and two large companies (OHB, AS). The ambitious goals of the project can only be met by gathering together a consortium that consists of different research groups, each representing state-of-the-art in their respective field. It was necessary to take a Cross-European approach and to assemble the consortium from a number of carefully selected partners that can together bring world-class expertise to all relevant R&I topics. It covers the entire innovation chain from PIC design up to systems production and utilization, and that there will be clear exploitation paths for all the technologies developed in the project.
The partners demonstrated their capability of to achieve record-breaking results in the fields of photonics in radar, photonics integration and RF technologies at component subsystem and system level, in order to obtain enhanced radar performance in terms of functionalities, flexibility, accuracy, as well as footprint and power consumption. The consortium has also the knowledge, equipment and infrastructures to design, manufacture, package, and qualify photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for microwave photonics in space applications, and for assembling RF systems. Most of the partners are also involved on a number of activities with their National Space Agencies.
